ver. New-point-oh
Hello again, loyal subj-.. er.. visitors. Welcome to the new version.
I have rewritten the site again pretty much from scratch. Those of you who are lucky enough to not be designers/developers will not care what is it exactly i've done anyway, so just enjoy the new look and i hope everything is more comfortable and bug-free now. (If not, i would appreciate it if you sent me a message detailing your troubles.)
As for the rest of you unlucky bastards, here goes:
- Completely rethought the PHP driving the site
- Now using a touch of CSS3 (pretty custom webfonts for all)
- Now using Slimbox instead of Lightbox
- Redesigned everything to be much less hacky. Stylesheet filesize pretty much halved.
- Added a shortcut in Japanese Massacre
- Dropped support for resolutions lower than a width of 1024. If you really care why i'll tell you.
- Dropped support for IE versions below 7. Sorry Grandma - you're going to have to upgrade.
There's also one more piece of good news - as of now all of kalme's mods are accounted for and available for download from the Mods page. The stupid thing is they could have been since the beginning, but i only thought of it now. Thank you very much, Archive.Org! And of course thank you too, kalme.
That is all for now. Enjoy the site.
New forums
Well, it seems that the official Painkiller forums are dead for good. Here's an attempt at damage control.
I have launched a shiny new forum right here - a place to rally to after JoWood's passing left the fanbase homeless. If you, dear reader, are reading this, that means you have at least some love for the game - enough to be browsing a website dedicated to it, right? So feel very welcome to drop by the forums and introduce yourself, or just say something nice.
The old "glory days" are gone. There's nothing anybody can do about that. And nobody is fooling themselves that Painkiller has that huge a following, especially with all the time that's passed and the way the publishers turned their back on it. This forum is not an attempt at becoming a huge community, it is just a place for us - the people that still love Painkiller - to find each other. No more, no less.
Sweet dreams, DreamCatcher
According to a number of news reports across the Web, JoWood are officially out of business. Consequently, DreamCatcher Interactive - publisher of our beloved game - is history as well. As of 29 April the official PK forums are offline, indefinitely. For those that would worry about such a thing - steps were taken to back up some notable threads, but as of this moment the people behind it (myself included) haven't coordinated a restoration effort yet. Will update if that changes.
The demise of Painkiller's owner also raises the interesting question of what happens to the IP from here on. Let us all hope it ends up in the hands of someone worthy.
RJ's "All About Painkiller" site is back
All About Painkiller was one of the best known sites out there, back in PK's heyday - it had nigh every possible piece of information one could think of, many screenshots and videos and tons of useful stuff. Risto Jouslahti - the guy behind it - was also one of the best known players among the Painkiller community, and now he's back with a bunch of new speedrun records and a complete redesign and revitalization of his site. Head over there and check it out, even now - more than 6 years after Painkiller's release - there is still interesting stuff to see.
A couple more mods
You can now find kalme's "No Gibbing" mod and the Hellgun mod in the - you guessed it - MODS section. A small bug with the lightbox was also fixed along the way.
Here we go
That's right - we now have a news section! I've been thinking about this for months and thanks to a sudden burst of motivation i finally sat down and did it. Of course having news in a site about a game that was released in 2004 is kind of an oxymoron in itself, not to mention (and it's been said a million times already) the excruciatingly tiny ammount of things that haven't been discovered yet, but let's see where this goes.
But enough about that. The index isn't the only thing that's changed (after all there had to be something to put in the news, right?).
The most important thing at the moment is that one of kalme's mods is back - the "all levels unlocker". Thanks go out to a very devoted fan named Kris Janin who sent it to me yesterday. May his name live in glory. The other mods are still being sought and will be made available as soon as they are found again. Until then you can grab the levels unlocker from the MODS section and have fun getting yourself torn a new one in Docks on Trauma.
There's also a minor change to the footer. I think it looks nicer with the new validity icons. Additionally, our wonderful wonderful site is now protected by Creative Commons. In a nutshell, that means one can copy, change and/or redistribute materials from the site as much as they want, provided it's non-commercially and licensed the same way. Just in case you were wondering. Also, the link to PK's official site has been replaced with one to the "new" about page (which is actually the former index) with the wall of text from before.
Meanwhile due to our hosting provider trying to dick us around the site is currently hosted elsewhere. And due to that the download links for the videos will be offline until i can figure something out.
As always i hope you enjoy the site and thanks for visiting.
